FAQ for Boxtoberfest 2014 Events Event 1 - Virtuosity *Can my partner help me to touch the bar if I am just doing burpees to the 7’6” target touch? YES. You can assist in any way. *Does everyone need to have their arms fully extended before the pull-up or muscle-up? NO. Only athletes who are receiving help from their teammates to get on the bar must reach full extension before attempting the chest-to-bar pull-up or bar muscle-up. This is to prevent the partner from assisting with the movement. If you are tall enough to reach the bar on your own, you do NOT need to purposely reach full extension before the repetition. *How often do we have to advance the plate and kettlebell? BOTH athletes move the plate and kettlebell EVERY TIME they complete the ground-to-overhead repetitions. As an example, Athlete #1 might complete 6 burpee to chest-to-bar pull-ups and 12 KB GTO, move the plate to the next mark, run back and tag their partner with a hand-slap, then Athlete #2 would complete 6 burpee to chest-to-bar pull-ups and 12 KB GTO, move the plate to the next mark, and run back and tag their partner with a hand-slap, etc. Event 2 - Work Capacity *What does the field look like? |___|____|_____|______| Stage 1 is 15 yards from the starting line. Stage 2 is 20 yards from the end of stage 1 (the end of stage 2 is 35 yards from the starting line). Stage 3 is 25 yards from the end of stage 2 (the end of stage 3 is 60 yards from the starting line). Stage 4 is 30 yards from the end of stage 3 (the end of stage 4 is 90 yards from the starting line). Stage 5 is the 90 yards back to the starting line. *Can we wear cleats on the field? YES. But remember, youll be doing jump rope right afterwards... No cleats are allowed on the mats for the jump rope!!! *Can I hold the 10 lb. bumper plate during the hand-slap transition? NO. Athletes must slap hands BEFORE touching the bumper plates. *When does the time end for the suicide sled sprint? Your first score will be the time to complete 2 rounds of the 5-stage suicide sled sprint. The time is recorded AT THE HAND SLAP after the second round. ATHLETES MUST SLAP HANDS before moving onto the jump rope repetitions. *What type of jump rope do I need to do? Open Division - singles / RX & Firebreather Divisions - double-unders *Do we need to slap hands between the jump rope transitions? NO. Athletes must slap hands after every stage on the sled, including the last stage IMMEDIATELY BEFORE the jump rope, but athletes do NOT have to slap hands in between their jump rope transitions. Event 3 - Core to Extremity *Where do I stand while my partner is doing deadlifts? You will stand off to the side of the barbell that is closest to the competition pool. There is not enough space between lanes for both athletes to stand on either side of the barbell. *Can Open teams retrieve the diving brick for extra points? NO. Brick retrievals are only for the Rx division (optional) and the Firebreather division (mandatory). *Do we need to swim WITH the diving brick? NO. The diving brick will stay on the deep end side of the pool. There will be a judge responsible for placing the brick back in the water after it is retrieved. *When does the 8 minutes begin? The ENTIRE event is 8 minutes long — meaning, you will have 8 minutes to complete your 50 deadlifts (for time, which is your first score) and THEN use the remaining time to swim as many 25 yard lengths and, if applicable, brick retrievals until the 8 minutes is up. *Why are there rules for swim wear? The Rio Rancho Aquatic Center rules dictate, All swimmers MUST wear a swimsuit. This rule exists for a number of reasons: 1) street clothes can transport contaminants (such as detergents and other chemicals, bacteria and germs, and environmental debris) into the pool; 2) cotton especially can break down and clog pool filters and also absorb necessary chemicals in the pool used for hygiene and safety; and 3) any colored fabric not designed for swimming may break down and bleed into the pool, affecting water chemistry and balance. Swim wear made from lycra, nylon, or polyester with colored dyes designed particularly for use in chlorinated pool water is therefore ideal.
