FARFUS ROBBED OF A STRONG RESULT AT THE NÜRBURGRING It is a disappointed Augusto Farfus who leaves the Eifel Mountains this weekend. In the seventh round of the 2014 DTM season, the Brazilian was on course to score a strong result. But his hopes came to an early end when his Castrol EDGE BMW M4 DTM was pushed off the track by a competitor. Augusto continued in the race after this early incident, but retired after 35 of the 49 laps. Coming from 14th on the grid, Augusto and BMW Team RBM opted to start with the softer option tyres in order to make up positions in the first stint. In addition, he made a brilliant start, being seventh at the end of the first lap. He was lying in in the top seven and pushing forward, but on lap 12 things changed dramatically for the driver from Curitiba. Audi driver Jamie Green tried to overtake on the inside. They collided, but Green kept pushing Augusto’s car through the corner until the Castrol EDGE BMW M4 DTM nearly spun around and ended up of the track. Augusto managed to re-join the race, but he had dropped from seventh to 15th. On the subsequent laps, he improved up to 11th. However, he then struggled to defend his position, eventually falling down the order to 17th. On lap 36, he drove into the pits and retired. “It was pretty disappointing”, Augusto commented. “Jamie was on the inside and once we touched he kept pushing me all the way out of the track limits. I think there was no need for that, but I want to take the opportunity to see the footage before I judge if it was a fair or an unfair manoeuvre. Anyway, it cost me my race. We had so much damage to the car, but we were trying to keep it on the track in case the weather changed. But that didn’t happen, so we retired as the car was too slow and there was no sense in continuing.” The race was won by Augusto’s fellow BMW works driver Marco Wittmann, who celebrated his fourth win of the season. In the overall rankings, leader Wittmann extended the gap to second placed Mattias Ekström to 64 points, with a total of 75 points on offer from the final three races of the season. Augusto is still ninth overall with 33 points. The eighth round of the 2014 DTM season will be held on 14th September at the Lausitzring in Germany.
