FARM TARMACADAM SCAM If you can please all share this around to warn others of the scumbag travellers that are going around Co. Wexford at the moment trying to scam people. My 60+ year old father was at home alone on our farm outside Clonroche when a 131 D Skoda Octavia pulled up with two well dressed and well spoken fellas in it. They told him they were doing a job nearby as sub contractors for the council and had most of a load of Tarmac left over that was going to go to waste if not used. They offered to put it on part of our lane which was not concreted and said €6 per metre of lane and Dad stepped it out with them there and agreed an amount. My father is not easily codded and the only reason he fell for it was we had some done the same lately by the council in much the same way and these lads seemed professional enough. Soon as he agreed a scut truck arrived and 4 more pricks with what was at most 6-8 ton of gravel. They opened the tailboard and drove at about 10 mile up and down the lane pissing out a bit of gravel all over the place. They then used a barrel of tar on the front of the lorry to blow a few snots of tar over this mess. the second they started tipping up Dad told them to stop and realised what was happening. He told them this wasnt agreed. Soon as they finished they turned on him to be paid. The original agreement had been a few hundred euro and now they demanded 3 thousand for this few minutes of shoddy work. Dad went ballistic and they claimed it was €6 per square meter not per meter of lane. My father is anything but a soft touch and stood his ground telling them to get out of the place and he wasnt paying them. After much arguing he agreed to give them the original agreed amount to get rid of them but they wouldnt back down demanding 3k. The biggest lad also got up in his face telling him he would have the place blockaded with caravans by the morning if he didnt pay up. At this stage he rang my brother and myself but as luck would have it I was in Cork and my brother in Waterford leaving him stranded. My brother rang the gardai and gave them reg numbers. They said this is going on all the time and they even were familiar with the reg and would send someone out straight away. At this stage Dad left the 6 of them where they were and headed down to our farmyard. He locked the gates and was inside with our Rottweiller and Alsation. I rang some neighbours to get over and help and these 6 pricks came down the lane and parked outside the gate and kept intimidating him. When they were told the gardai were coming they didnt give a damn. Eventually after over half an hour since they were rang the gardai arrived. This still didnt scare them one bit and it took the guards a while to get them to take the few hundred euro and piss off. From what Dad could see there was no chance of them being arrested or anything else. What is going on in our rural areas at all. There are more and more of these things all the time. Do we have to pull out the shotguns and sort these bastards out ourselves once and for all. I never felt as helpless as today being 100 miles from home knowing my father was going through all this. If any of those pricks from today ever read this please call back some day again when the rest of us are near home as we normally do be and well see if your such big men then. Please share this around as it may stop them managing to scam some old pensioner or soft touch out of a heap of money.
