FASHION DESIGNER Lucky B: Original Stush on the rise in NYC (BY Mondale Smith in NYC) FLATBUSH, New York: While he became popular for his soca singing abilities in Guyana Carlos Lucky B Williams has put down the microphone, picked up the scissors and has tapped into his other creative side in the land of the free and the home of the brave, USA.This former Canal Number one resident, age 33 has made the USA his home five years and counting and is still very much interested in furthering his singing career. BUT he has found more favor for his designing abilities on the college circuit in the United States and is now branching out into showcasing for major fashion events with his eyes on the prize of Milan.Under the brand Original Stush which was launched in Guyana in 2007 he has made his way into the Bikini Under the bridge event and more recently the Uptown Fashion Week in Manhattan as at February last. But that is just the tip of the iceburg in the scheme of things as his creative abilities and fashion forward creations are to be featured on the Americas it girl designer contest slated for television showcasing in August,2014. If he wins he has much to gain aside from popularity as a creative director.Im not like the regular Guyanese designer. I take things at my pace while catering to private clientel and at present im working on my atelier collection, said the designer as he worked on a red, sequinned body fitting high fashion yet ready to wear piece in his showroom located on Flatbush and Caiton Avenue, New York.This designer sticking to his caribbean roots has an ever growing Jamaican mostly clientelle with names such as bennie man, Lisa Hype, Baby Cham and Conscience amongst others donning his attire as he creates outfits for men and women at the same pace. While some designers are done at sketching his quest to impact the fashion mainstreem goes beyond that to include sketching, cutting and sewing and photography. He makes it a point to note that he has always had a love for fashion designing and pursued it by compleating a tailoring course at the carnegie school of home economics in downtown Georgetown and for this he is eternally grateful for the training and certification. This West Bank Demerara is aiming for his creations to be showcased in Milan, Paris and being sold in stores but is satisfied that he is making strides albe it baby steps at present and getting the lucrative recognition necessary. He has completed several upgrade workshops in Paris, France and has also launched into fashion photography at the BRICK House.His creations have been showcased at the Guyana fashon Week, Uprown fashion week, New York Fashion week and more recently at the Irie Jam Fashion Rave.
