FAZ WARNS CLUBS OVER CONTRACTS The Football Association of Zambia Player Status and Transfer Committee Chairman Lombe Mbalashi has issued a stern warning to both club’s and players who tend to go about business with disregard to terms in their contracts. In a statement, Mbalashi emphasized that contracts are meant to protect both the players and the club and should thus be respected. It should be understood that contracts are meant to protect both the players and the clubs and it is important that they are respected,” Mabalshi said. “There is also a misconception to the effect that a contracted player can resign from a club at any time, be advised that there is no such thing as resignation, any such act is construed under FIFA/ FAZ Statutes as being a termination of the contract without just cause which in itself has sanctions attached to it which include the banning of a player from playing for 4 months and also banning of the club wishing to engage such a player from registering any player for 2 consecutive transfer windows,” he added. He further urged players to ensure that they fully understood the terms in the contracts before signing. He added that global standards and regulations were key to improving the standards of the game in the country. “If we are to improve our football it should not only be on the pitch but also in our conduct, we need to adopt the practices and standards set globally for anyone to take us seriously. As we move towards the era of club licensing it will be important that we set the pace towards achieving professionalism by obeying the basic principles rules and regulations.”
