FB Familia, Milagros shares a story of growing up amidst the Civil War in El Salvador. Although the Civil War in El Salvador has ended, economic disparities and violence continue to be on the rise. 2014 saw a steep surge in women and unaccompanied minors (including young children) making the arduous trek from El Salvador, as well as Honduras and Guatemala, through Mexico and in to the United States. ICE set up “family” detention facilities exclusively for women and children in places like Artesia, New Mexico and Karnes City, Texas. While some women and children have been able to find asylum, a great many more are deported, while others languish in detention indefinitely. ICE continues to expand family detention facilities in many states, one of the nearest being in Adelanto, California. The United States possesses the largest immigration detention system in the world, with much of it privatized and for-profit. Interestingly enough many of these detention centers are located in areas with high unemployment rates where the Centers provide some of the only “good jobs” in the area. Detaining families sets a precedent that will have implications for all of us in the future. #MiHistoria #MiHistoriaNet #ElSalvador #Soyapango #immigrantdetentioncenters #artesianewmexico #karnescitytexas #warinelsalvador #ice #adelantocalifornia #womenandchildren #industrialprisoncomplex #familyseparation #notonemore #mujeresvalientes
