FCU’s Precision Machinery Training Center produces graduates capable of tackling the challenges of the emerging precision machinery industry ---- At a press conference held on July 29, representatives of the Workforce Development Agency discussed their recent establishment of six industrial manpower training programs across the country. Invited to discuss the development of FCU’s Precision Machinery Training Center were FCU vice-president, Xiao Yaoren, and director of FCU’s Office of Continuing Studies and Extension Education, Lai Wenxiang. Vice-president Xiao pointed out that the precision machinery industry is a virtual goldmine for central Taiwan, with a potential annual output in the billions. In such an environment, cultivating talented graduates and making use of local resources is of the utmost importance for the economic growth of the region. Xiao emphasized FCU’s commitment to the Precision Machinery Training Center and stressed the importance of continued funding for this emerging industry. He also took the opportunity to reiterate the importance of FCU’s successful industry-academia cooperative programs. In 2012, with the establishment of the Precision Machinery Training Center, FCU’s Office of Continuing Studies and Extension Education initiated the first phase of its precision machinery development plan. This year, the second phase of the development plan has brought the introduction of eight new courses to aid in the training of students. These courses, including diverse topics like 3D printing and bicycle mechanics, provide students with specified training and therefore increased employment opportunities upon graduation. By integrating the requirements of industry with the aspirations of graduates, FCU continues to play a key role in the development of central Taiwan’s precision machinery industry.
