FDD Calls for Protests Vote in By-Elections The opposition Forum for Democracy and Development has urged the electorates in areas where the citizenry had gone for over a year without representation to use their vote to protest the anomaly. FDD Copperbelt chairperson Yotam Mtayachalo said the ruling Patriotic Front’s having challenged the eligibility of the eight opposition parliamentarians to re-contest their seats amounted to an abuse of the judicial process. Mtayachalo said the electorates suffered massive underdevelopment during the period there was a power vacuum in their constituencies. Last week, the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the opposition parliamentarians that they have a right to re-contest their seats and that the motion by the PF was wrongly before the courts of law. Reading the judgment, Supreme Court judge Evans Hamaundu said the High Court should have handed reports to the Electoral of Commission where there was evidence of corruption. “The electorates in constituencies where the PF had blocked by-elections that unfair process of taking the matter to court, in fact that amounts to the abuse of the court process,” Mtayachalo said. “The electorates should punish the PF for denying them representation for such a long time.” Among the MPs that had suffered are the Charles Kakoma (Zambezi West), Eustackio Kazonga (Vubwi), Sydney Chisanga (Mkushi North), Victoria Kalima, Lucky Mulusa (Solwezi Central). zambiareports/2014/07/07/fdd-calls-protests-vote-elections/
