FEATURE ARTIST OF THE WEEK – JUNIOR DIVISION Hi Fast Trackers – Melbourne’s second last Quarter Final went off with a bang! It was wonderful to see some many familiar faces there on the day and to see how much you have grown since the Heats. The Junior Division Winner of the Feature Artist of the Week Award on Sunday 20th October is Mikaylah Aumau. Congratulations Mikaylah on an awesome performance it was great to see a really talented young artist be so confident and comfortable on stage. Well Done on making it to the Semi-Finals! Name: Mikaylah Aumau Age: 12 How long have you been singing? ‘I’ve been singing since I was a toddler although I’ve only recently started lessons’ Do you receive singing lessons? ‘Yes I receive lessons from Alanna Deutrom through the David Jaanz School of Singing, I’m blessed to have such supportive and positive mentors’ How often do you practice outside of your lessons? Where do you like to practice? ‘I practice every day! I like to practice at home.’ Have you been to any concerts? What is your favourite? ‘I’ve been to three concerts, one of my most memorable was Lionel Richie at “A Day on the Green”. I’m looking forward to seeing Alicia Keys and Bruno Mars perform soon. If you could choose who would you like to see in concert, dead or alive? Why? ‘There’s so many artists that I’d want to see perform a few would be; Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, P!nk, Alicia Keys and Bruno Mars.’ Who is your favourite artist that inspires you? ‘An artist that has always inspired me is Beyoncé she has always motivated me as she is simply amazing!’ What is your favourite song? ‘There are so many songs to choose from its difficult picking although if I had to choose at the moment I would say Stan Walker’s version of “Purple Rain”’. Do you write any of your own songs? What is your process? ‘I have recently started writing songs. When I’m writing a song I like to come up with the chords first then add words that express how I’m feeling at the time.’ Do you play any instruments? What is your favourite? ‘I play the Guitar and Piano they both are amazing instruments I can’t pick between the two!’ What made you want to become a singer? ‘Singing has always been my outlet it takes me to another state of mind.’ How would you describe your singing style? ‘I would consider my singing style to be RnB / Pop.’ What is your favourite thing about performing? ‘My favourite thing about performing would have to be the fact I get to tell a story through the song I’m singing.’ What would you like to achieve as a performer? ‘I would like to be able to perform at Madison Square Garden!’ Have you performed before? If so, do you have a favourite experience? ‘I’ve performed five times on stage so far and my favourite experience would be my most recent audition for the Jaanz end of year showcase. We rushed straight to Richmond after the Quarter Finals at Fast Track. I literally ran in and was the last audition for the day & gave it my all. I felt like I was in my element & it all just came together. It was a great feeling!’ What is your favourite song to sing live? ‘At the moment “Price Tag” by Jessie J.’ Have you enjoyed your Fast Track experience? ‘I have really enjoyed it. It has been a great opportunity to gain more experience performing on stage and meet other artists and mentors.’ What are you going to sing in the Semi Final? ‘To be honest I’m still deciding!’ Well Done on a stand-out performance the crowd and judges loved hearing you sing and take charge of the stage.
