FELLOWSHIP WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT The word fellowship has its origin from the Greek word koinonia meaning communion, joint participation, sharing and intimacy. So,to be in fellowship with the Holy Spirit is to be in partnership,communion,intimacy,joint participation with God the father and God the son as Ephesians 2:18 says so that through Him(Christ) we both have access in one SPIRIT to the Father(emphasis mine). This union should be experienced in practical daily life because it is the bond that link the church to Christ and also keeps us together in unity as a church. It has become a common practice whenever we bring church meetings and Christian gatherings to an end,we would saylet us share the grace ,and together we chorusthe grace of our Lord Jesus christ,and the love of God,and the fellowship with the Holy Spirit be with us now and forever more,amen as stated in Corinthians 13:14. As good as this is,it dawned on me that this prayer has become more of a tradition and mere saying to many of us and not a reality in our lives. For some of us,our fellowship with the Holy Spirit ended the moment the service ended. Perhaps we dont know the meaning of 2 Corinthians 13:14? We have received the grace of God through Jesus Christ,this is why we abound in the love of God and the fellowship with the Holy Spirit is what keeps us in unity with God at all times. Through the help of the Holy Spirit, the church fellowship with Christ in worship,prayer,meditating on the word of God,and loving one another. 1. WORSHIP: Through the Holy Spirit,we worship God in spirit and in truth as Jesus told the Samaritan woman in John 4:23-24 But a time is coming - and now is here - when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such people to be his worshipers. God is spirit, and the people who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. Worshipping God is not all about raising our hands up and singing some slow songs during our meetings,it is our service to Him at all time in spirit and truth, anywhere we are. It is our attitude of love and sincerity to Him-in songs,in words and in deeds. 2. PRAYER: When it comes to praying,I believe a believer can pray,but can never pray right without the help of the Holy Spirit. Why do I say this? Prayer is communication with God,since God is spirit,it takes a spirit to communicate with a spirit,this is what the Holy Spirit does for us,He helps our spirit to communicate with God and also intercede for us,Romans 8:26-27 saysIn the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how we should pray,but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes on behalf of the saints according to Gods wil. Until we have the understanding that we cant pray right without the help of the Holy Spirit,we may not pray according to Gods will and our prayer would not produce the right result. 3. MEDITATING ON GODS WORDS: In Jesus description of the Holy Spirit,He described Him as the Spirit of truth in John 16:13, earlier in 14:26 He saidBut the Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and will cause you to remember everything I said to you. The Holy Spirit being the Spirit of truth points to Him as one who teaches,illuminates and reminds us of Gods words. As the wordmeditate implies,He helps our minds to focus on Gods word for growth by giving us knowledge of the secrets in Gods words(2 Corinthians 2:10-13). 4. LOVING ONE ANOTHER: The first placefellowship was mentioned in the bible was in Acts 2:42And the believers devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Their love for each other was shown in how much they were of one mind and did everything together in unity(Acts 4:32). This was made possible because the Holy Spirit was at work in them. Jesus had commanded usI give you a new commandment - to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one anotherJohn 13:34. The love of Christ is what unites us as a church so how much we love Christ is revealed how much we love our brethren. PRAYER STARTER: Holy Spirit,I commit myself to fellowship with you in worship,prayer,meditating on Gods words and loving my brethren. So help me God.
