FERGUSON POLICE Im not even going to get into the ethics side of things, just the practical side. The Police know the answer to stop this nonsense in Ferguson. Theyve even taught it in police academies everywhere. Just dont show up. Tonight, instead of forming a giant line with tear gas and flash bangs and sticks and shields and tanks. Just dont show up, drive all the armored vehicle and all the personnel out of Ferguson. There is historic precedent for this working to end almost all rioting instantly. Lets not pretend that the police are the only thing keeping the city from burning down, because we know that police in Ferguson have stopped responding to normal service calls during this time. Its about winning. And that is foolish because it only undermines your credibility. Even if people break windows and turn over a few cars, they will not be seen as legitimate protestors by the public, in fact, we know in many cases the legitimate protestors will stop the rioters when they engage in that stuff. This isnt like the 1960s or even the 1992 riots. The property owners are armed now with the understanding that its not the polices job to protect them (multiple supreme court rulings clarifying that their job is to apprehend and prosecute criminals). The property crimes will not last long. The rioters are mad, and they want an enemy, your giving them one. But YOU KNOW when you show up playing dress up like your in Fallujah and form a line, like foreign army, and you point guns at an entire crowd, that your gonna find ones that will throw bricks and things at you. Which you THINK justifies all your cool toys. Just leave, let the peaceful protestors do as they please and let the citizens shut down the thugs. Dont go to war with the citizens.
