FESTA’s opening night: Urban Wanderings FESTA kicks off on - TopicsExpress

FESTA’s opening night: Urban Wanderings FESTA kicks off on Friday 25 October with its opening night, Urban Wanderings. The public is invited to wander through the city at night during this free and public event, and engage with Christchurch as it comes alive with happenings, launches and assorted transitional projects. Dr Jessica Halliday, FESTA’s director, explains that ‘With Urban Wanderings we wanted to bring people back into the city to stroll and have more than one reason to be in the city at night. We hope weve created the conditions for chance encounters - that magical urban experience where you unexpectedly meet friends on the street or at an event. Its one of those urban qualities Christchurch is lacking at present.’ Urban Wanderings takes place across various sites in the inner city from 4 – 11.00pm. Browse Anissa Victoria’s Twilight Market at the Pallet Pavilion for vintage and collectibles from 4 – 8pm and enjoy late night food, music, films and animation at ArtBox’s Something Super on the corner of Madras and St Asaph Street from 5.30pm. In between happenings at these two notable works of transitional architecture, an exciting range of projects and events bring the city alive: enjoy a selection of short films available to watch in the mobile Picture House for two at Cathedral Junction; for those who like to relax there is a Native American inspired Nomadic Sauna at 136 Manchester Street; head down to the Agropolis launch at 154 High St from 4-6pm and celebrate the opening of this scalable productive urban farm. Rekindle’s Whole House Reuse screens a documentary and launches a selection of materials from the salvage of a Red Zone house at 35 New Regent Street, where Wine & Sound (a multi-sensory tasting experience) also has its firsts official outing. Gap Filler’s RAD (Recycle a Dunger) Bikes community workshop will be open for bike restoration from 7 – 9pm at 165 Gloucester Street. Make sure you head into the city centre for a night of Urban Wanderings and explore the creative transitional projects that Christchurch has to offer. Please visit festa.org.nz for more information.
