FESTUBERT 1915 World War I – France & Flanders - 15th – 25th May 1915 All three battalions took part in this attack whose main aim was to capture the high ground above Lille. Unfortunately, the German positions were very strong and well supplied with machine-guns. Despite heavy bombardments, the enemy’s wire remained uncut and attack after attack was mown down by machine-guns.
