FG backs US on Abacha loot forfeiture ========================= The Federal Government has stated that the action by the United States Department of Justice to legal action for the forfeiture of the loot of late General Sani Abacha from the coffers of the nation when he was Head of State is good development. The FG also assured the US government of every assistance it would require to ensure that the move against the booty of the late ruler is a success. The forfeiture move is aimed “property related to the corrupt conduct of late Abacha, the former and his associates and the subsequent laundering of corruption proceeds. According to the statement, the proceedings if successful against the defendants would lead to the forfeiture of over $550million and £95,910 in 10 accounts and six investment portfolios linked to the Abachas in France, the Britain, British Virgin Islands and the United States. A statement from the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke (SAN) “applauded the efforts of the United States to recover the proceeds of corruption for the benefit of the people of Nigeria.
