FG grounds another Kenyan aircraft Written by Shola Adekola-Lagos The Nigerian government has grounded another Kenyan aircraft in Lagos. The grounded plane, which is presently parked at the air side of the international wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos is being guarded by security agents. According to information gathered, the aircraft in question which brought some Nigerian deportees into the country late last week was prevented from flying out even after the deportees had been received by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), attached to the airport. As of the time of filing this report, the details of the grounded plane could not be ascertained as customs officials at the airport said the issue was already being handled by its headquarters in Abuja. The reason for the grounding of the aircraft by the Nigerian authorities was still unclear as of the time of filing this report. It will be recalled that Nigerian authorities had, about two weeks ago, grounded an aircraft believed to belong to a Kenyan citizen for entering the country’s airspace without valid particulars. The jet, according to aviation authorities, did not only fail to file proper flight plan, but declared it to be a diplomatic jet only for the Nigerian authorities to discover that the jet was a private one on a private mission into the country. The jet which brought a deported Nigerian based in Kenya over alleged matrimonial crisis with his Kenyan wife, was said to have operated in the country without registration number and was subsequently grounded by security operatives attached to the airport. The Nigerian authorities sanctioned the jet and insisted that it must pay for navigational services and other charges rendered. This was done before it was allowed to leave the country.
