FIFA EXTENDS NC’S MANDATE AGAIN Africa » Gambia Friday, June 28, 2013 The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) has confirmed that football world governing body, FIFA, has again extended the mandate of the Normalisation Committee (NC) by one month to July 31st. The Normalisation process of Gambian football was expected to come to an end on Saturday when elections would have been called to elect the executive board of the GFF for the next four years, but that has been called off with the GFF revealing that they are currently concluding the final processes for the newly established regional football associations. Omar Sey confirmed in an interview with Observer Sports this week that based on the latest developments, the congress slated for June 30th has been called off. And now the GFF have confirmed in a press release issued to this medium that, FIFA, writing to the Chairman of the NC, Fosco Conateh, has decided to extend their mandate for another month, when elections are expected to be called to elect in a new executive. Below is the full text of the release. The Gambia Football Federation is pleased to inform the general public of the receipt of a letter from the World football governing body FIFA in which they acknowledged the recent processes administered by the GFF Normalisation Committee leading to the election of a new executive body. FIFA also congratulates the Normalisation Committee for the adoption of the new constitution for the Gambia Football Federation which according to them is an important milestone which should pave the road for a better football future. The Normalisation Committee further informs the general public that FIFA has agreed to extend the deadline of the Normalisation Committee to July 31st, 2013 when elections of new office bearers would take place. Also on this letter addressed to the Chairman of the Normalisation Committee, the body noted that in order to respect the FIFA deadline of June 30th, the mandate of the of the Normalisation Committee is now extended to July 31st, 2013. The Normalisation Committee as mandated by FIFA will act as electoral committee whose decisions are binding and final. As such, the NC will be in charge of the electoral process in opening of candidatures, screening, selection and any other matter related to the election in compliance with the new constitution. FIFA has further reminded the Normalisation Committee that among the requirements to be eligible for a GFF Executive Committee seat, the candidate should not be convicted of felony and that the different persons who brought the GFA into a state of agony because of mismanagement or greed will be prevented from contesting. Meanwhile, the Gambia Football Federation has opened nominations for aspiring candidates to the position of GFF President. The Secretariat is pleased to announce that the process is steadily going peacefully. In another development, the GFF has been consulting with the Confederation of African Football CAF to acquire the services of a technical expert to assist structure the technical department of the GFF. In fact, the expert will arrive early next week and will help prepare a technical plan in consultation with the Coaches Association and also assist in identifying qualified persons for the technical department.
