FIFA GOAL Project....Lionel Messi - CONFIRMED...whilst he indeed made sure that Argentina sailed past the group stages with good performances especially against Iran and Nigeria...Argentina scrapped through the round of 16 only managing a late extra time winner against Switzerland, struggled against Belgium in the quarter finals where the Belgians were their own nemesis...had to force a penalty shootout against The Netherlands in the semis...and in all these knockouts Messi was truly a pale shadow of himself, a far cry from his scintillating performances for Barca...if at all an Argentine had to win the player of the tournament then it should have been Di Maria or Mascherano but honestly The Netherlands Robben had to win it despite his diving controversies
