FIFA vs Nigeria Nigeria Beats FIFA Deadline As Court Vacates Injunction Against NFF AS MAIGARI RETURNS Nigeria has escaped outright ban by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), Prompt News can report. The eleventh hour effort to save the country’s football yielded fruit as Justice L.P. Lot of the High Court sitting in Jos, Plateau State, late Wednesday vacated the order restraining the Aminu Maigari-led Executive Board from running Nigerian football. With this development, all the parties involved are expected to revert to the status quo, which means the Aminu Maigari-led Executive Board of the Nigeria Football Federation has been technically reinstated. Consequently, the General Secretary, Musa Amadu, last night communicated officially to FIFA so as to beat the July 17 deadline. FIFA had at an emergency meeting last week Tuesday, suspended the NFF from its activities citing government interference that runs contrary to Article 13, par. 1 and article 17, par. 1 of the FIFA Statutes. Prompt News recalls that the bubble burst in the Football House when the Owner of Nembe FC, Mrs. Ebiakpo Rumson Baribote (Plaintiff) through her Counsel, S D Ekara, holding brief of T D Quidon Esq, filed a Suit No PLD/J 342/2014, asking the Court to grant an Order of Interim Injunction restraining the 2nd Defendant, (Alhaji Aminu Miagari) and all the Committee and congress of the 1st Defendant (the Nigeria Football Federation) from further controlling, commanding or managing the Affairs of the 1st Defendant and all Football matters in Nigeria pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injunction filed in this case. In granting the prayer, the presiding Judge, L.P Lot, declared “That Interim Injunction is granted restraining the 2nd Defendant, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, and all other purported members of the Executive Committee and Congress of the 1st Defendant (NFF) from further Controlling, Commanding or Managing the Affairs of the 1st defendant and all Football matters in Nigeria pending the hearing, and determination of the Motion on Notice. “An Order of mandatory injunction is granted compelling the 4th Defendant (Minister of Sports) to appoint senior member of the civil service in the 1st Defendant (NFF) to command, control and manage the Affairs of the said 1st Defendant and the Football matters in Nigeria pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice in this matter”. Sequel to the declaration and the mandate of the Court, Sports Minister, Tammy Danagogo, appointed Lawrence Katken, an Assistant Director at the NFF as Acting General Secretary pending the determination of the Motion on Notice. Apart from the court case which FIFA frowns at, the NFF through the Chairman of chairmen of State Football Associations, Effiong, hurriedly convened an extra-ordinary congress which dissolved the Aminu Maigari-led Board and ratified the appointment of the Acting General Secretary.
