FIGHT TO KEEP YOUR OPTIMISM “Fight the good fight of faith.” 1 Timothy 6:12 KJV You have got to fight constantly to maintain your faith and optimism. You have got to be creative to survive the ammunitions of the plethora of cynics and pessimists that we have in our world. They are bent on showing you the bad in everything, they spread gloom and depression wherever they go; and they are everywhere, from church to school to the market. Put on your life jacket of faith or you will drown in their cynicism and pessimism. Think creatively to avoid their traps. Think like these guys. Andrew was in church one day and the pastor was preaching: “My dear members you can just die anytime anyhow and anywhere. Right now as you are in this church you can just drop dead, while going home you can just die… death can come anytime… and before you know it you are 6-feet below.” Andrew started shaking his head vigorously. The pastor noticed it and asked the young man why he was shaking his head. “I can’t die like that sir!” “Why!?” “Because I’m not a member of this church, I just visited.” What a creative way to meet pessimism with optimism. An old sea captain once asked a naval student how he will handled a sea storm. “I will throw out an anchor sir,” the student replied promptly. “And what if there is another storm?” “I will throw out another anchor Captain.” “And what if there is another storm and another storm and another storm and another storm and…” “I will keep throwing out anchors and anchors and anchors… sir!” The captain was dazed. “Wait a minute boy. Where are you getting all those anchors?” “From the same place you keep getting all those storms sir!” was the prompt reply. Don’t let the cynics and pessimists kill you, keep the vision burning, hold the line, stay alive, and protect yourself with a shield of faith. LET’S PRAY: Help me O God to stay positive in a negative world, to keep my faith where doubt prevails. SUCCESS ACTIVITY: Be on the lookout for faith killers and pessimism vendors and creatively keep them off. CONFESSION: I am an incurable optimist!
