#FILMMUSICSTORIES : The Talented Mr. Ripley by Anthony Minghella (1999) When I asked Anthony about Tom ripley’s character, he told me that underneath the fact that he is a murderer, is really a genuine, honest man but unstable. This inspired me to write a syncopated theme, which reflects these characteristics directly. As the accented beat in the melody comes before the main beat, it gives a sense of awkwardness in the music, matching these two sides to Ripley’s personality.
