FINALLY!! HOMETIME!! Thats what we ,..in the trucking industry, call time off. It consists of 2 or 3 days off , for de-compression, after 2 to 5 weeks continuously on the road...in the truck...away from home , family , and friends. It basically sucks , but , its what we do for a living. We ,( drivers ,) keep the country going with what we do. Everything we all have in our lives ,at one time took a ride on a truck. Food...cars...fuel...everything your home was built with...the very clothes on your back..and the money in your pocket , ALL rode on a truck at one point. Lots of folks want to complain about truck drivers on the road. If this is you,please take a few things into account. The truck he or she is driving, with a loaded trailer weighs about 25 times what the average car does. The driver may not have seen you, if , he or she has committed some infraction according to you. If you are hanging out on the side of the truck, instead of ahead or behind it,..,thats probably the case...so back off or speed up to get away from it. The driver may have been up for a good while...and away from his family for a few weeks...so please take that into account before you decide to cut him off...flip him ( or her ) the bird...or honk your horn in anger. The driver MAY be trying to get home after being gone a long time. The time we get to spend with our families, and friends is the best life has to offer. This is especially true for drivers like myself. Drivers dont have the luxury of punching out and going home after a shift in the office or factory. So , please cut us some slack before you decide to go ballistic on us. Were only trying to eventually get home,..something most of you take for granted. My rant is over...except to say thank you for reading it. I have 3 days off , and Im going to enjoy them. Its the month of giving thanks , and TIME OFF is what Im thankful for,along with good people to spend the time with. Peace. God Bless America. 9 November 2013.
