FINALLY! We just figured out our problem with uploading videos. Unfortunately they will not upload directly sometimes so they will all most likely be uploaded to YouTube and linked to FaceBook. Here is our first long-term pooch video. This video is of our goofy boy Chief and our sweet girl GiGi. Chief we first received in August 2013 as an extremely unsocialized three month old puppy. He is a shepherd-lab-hound mix and was born in May 2013 and now weighs 70 pounds. It took us a long time to get Chief used to us, but now he is the sweetest thing. He is our go-to dog friendly tester for our new intakes because he is so playful and loving to people and dogs. Chief will still bark and back away from some new people (Usually larger men), but after awhile he opens up. He has been adopted an returned four times. The first 2 adopters just realized they did not have as much time for him as they thought and brought him back. The 3rd adopter did not keep him crated when they werent home so he began to chew things up. He also would dig outside if they did not watch him, and he would also wander away without a fence. Although he always came back, this is not safe at all. The fourth adopter also had problems with him wandering off and brought him back. For a good home for Chief we suggest someone who has a fenced in back yard, or a tie-out for potty breaks so that he cannot run away. Someone who has time to watch him outside or just check on him every now and then when he is outside playing so he does not dig. Lastly we suggest a home that is willing to crate Chief when unsupervised OR a home with another dog. Chief loves other dogs and when one of our employees fostered Chief to work with him he did not dig or chew at all and we believe this was because of the other dog that was there 24/7 with Chief. Next we have GiGi who we took in in May. She weighs around 40 pounds, is a 2-3 year old boxer mix, dog friendly, but NOT cat friendly. GiGi is a VERY sweet girl who gets very anxious in her kennel. If you walks by she may be barking or jumping on her kennel door. This is just because she wants out very badly. GiGi has some energy, but once she gets a good walk or a little play she is ready to relax and be loved on. We took her to Mingle with the Mutts once and she did AMAZING for her first adoption event. After the first ten minutes she just laid around and waited calmly for dogs or people to come to her. GiGi is just a very sweet girl who needs just a little over five or ten minutes for someone to see her real side which is calm and loving. When she plays with other dogs she does get a bit rowdy and rough so if she is adopted into a home with another dog we suggest a home with at least a medium sized dog and one who does not get irritated by another dog jumping on them sometimes. These two are just two of our several long time residents. We are hoping to find them both loving homes for the holidays. If you would like to visit one of these beauties you can stop out anytime during our open hours and ask to see them. If you would like to go ahead and put an application on someone those can be done at hsmcohio. If you have any questions at all please leave a comment, send a message, or call us at 614-879-8368. If we do not answer please leave your name, number, and reason for calling and we will get back to you as soon as we can. Thank you for reading and please share so we can find these two a home for the winter.
