FINDING AND KEEPING HOPE Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. **Romans 5:5 ********** Have you ever lost hope? Feeling hopeless is one of the most emotionally debilitating conditions people experience. But hopelessness is also one of the most avoidable conditions, once you understand what genuine hope is—and you place your hope in God alone. Too many people confuse hope with one of several poor imitations, such as the kind of “hope” that is little more than wishful thinking or the kind that depends entirely on a specific outcome. By contrast, authentic hope is the confidence that no matter what the outcome, God will see you through all of life’s challenges and difficulties. That’s not wishful thinking; that a certainty. Think of it this way: You have everything to gain by holding on to the hope that in God’s hands everything will one day make sense, and that you will endure to the end. That requires a shift from insisting upon a particular way you think things should go to deciding that no matter how things go, God will be your constant companion and source of comfort. Placing your hope in God alone offers you the assurance that regardless of the circumstances, you can always be at peace, because God will always be with you.
