FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM TO 10 PM WEDNESDAY FOR KLAMATH AND LAKE COUNTIES IN SOUTHERN OREGON FOR FREQUENT LIGHTNING ALONG WITH GUSTY WINDS. Scattered thunderstorms could develop in all areas east of the Cascades in Oregon on Wednesday. Storms are likely to generate in the morning hours in Klamath and Lake Counties and then activity spreads north through the day. Dry lightning is not as big a threat here, but there will be frequent lightning along with gusty winds with storms that form and lightning strikes outside of precipitation cores will happen. Any of those strikes are likely to spark fires. Gusty winds will contribute to rapid rates of fire spread if fires do ignite. Rain with the storms may help contain some fires that result, but chances are high for some fires to be missed by precipitation and thus fire activity will be higher. This watch is likely to be turned into a Red Flag Warning, where conditions are occurring or will occur, tomorrow morning. This watch message is for advisory purposes to expect conditions that will promote fire starts and spread.
