FIRST BANK (Note to all my friends who have account(s) in First - TopicsExpress

FIRST BANK (Note to all my friends who have account(s) in First Bank) I was in First Bank (Abule Egba branch) to deposit some money today around 1pm. I filled the usual teller and was directed to the room (not counter) where deposits were being made. There were a few people on the queue and when it was like 3 or 4 people before my turn, the woman behind the computer asked us to talk to THAT MAN. That Man was one of the regular security men in uniform. And his own task at that duty post was to collect our tellers and money. He would slot the teller into the machine for stamping and then put it into a transparent envelope along with the money WITHOUT COUNTING THE MONEY.... The envelopes were then dropped into a glass box, from which the woman behind the computer retrieved them for processing. They were different envelopes for each customer. When I saw the way he treated the first two, I raised an alarm as to why he didnt count the money. To my chagrin, only the lady behind me echoed my line of thought. Others just watched him stamp their tellers, seal their money with the tellers, collect the customers copy of the teller from him and go on their own way. When it got to my turn, he did the same thing and gave me the customers copy of the teller. I asked him, if that was ALL, and he said Yes, you can go after you register it here. The register it here was the usual details written in long hand into a big hard cover book. What about the cashiers signature here? I asked him while pointing to the appropriate empty space on the teller. Dont worry, shebi I have stamped it. I called the attention of the lady behind the computer and her irritation was glaring on her face. Mister, what is it? The transactions youre attending to..., this man is NOT counting the money before passing them to you. She replied: But you counted yours now, and youre sure it is okay. Im like WTF???! I was speechless! Spellbound! Gobsmacked! But as I was holding up the queue, my fellow faithful Nigerians started grumbling and saying shebi they have attended to you, leave the queue now. So I left. I went into the main banking hall and asked the nearest security man where I can make enquiries or lodge a complaint, he asked me to go upstairs. So up the stairs I went... The sea of human beings I met there shocked me back to reality. There were at least one hundred and fifty people (150) jam packed into the space. The queue for enquiries had at least fifty people. I imagined the long wait and thereafter the (same) reaction I would most likely get. Because, if it was not in the modus operandi of the bank, the cashier would not delegate her responsibilities to a security man. So I left.... But I left with several thoughts running through my mind.... What if a customer filled in a wrong account number? What if the account name was not correct? What if someones money was short or in excess by mistake? What if someone dropped fake notes? What if.... Too many what ifs on my mind. To my friends who have accounts in First Bank, is this how you transact business there? Or is this anomaly peculiar to only ABULE EGBA BRANCH? #NigeriaIsInABiggerMessThanWeThink
