FIRST CUT IS DEEPEST, AND MOST PAINFUL By Pablo Yagayo My - TopicsExpress

FIRST CUT IS DEEPEST, AND MOST PAINFUL By Pablo Yagayo My literature lecturer at university once told us that there are two times in a man’s life when he won’t be able to understand women – the time when he is single and the time when he is married. A single man struggles to single out a partner for life because he isn’t sure who is competing with him for the same ‘prey.’ My friend invested heavily in a campus girl for four years and as he was planning to propose to her, she brought him a pledge card inviting him to her wedding meetings to some old folk working in public service. I partly blamed him. How do you date someone for four years without letting her know your intentions? He told me that he was still studying her. What is it that you are studying for four years? Is she a master’s degree or a course in petroleum technology? I thought that maybe she was frustrated by his delayed action, but I later got to learn that she was also seeing a shop attendant at the same time. Surprisingly, it is said that out of frustration, the shop attendant refused to hand back the shop keys to her upon learning that she was getting married to an old gizzard. This obviously means that the shop belonged to the girl. Remember she was just a student. This also means my friend’s investments were being sunk into the shop, which logically makes him a shareholder, but he can’t prove that right. My friend moved on with his life and married another lady. A few months later, he received a call from his ex-girlfriend reminiscing about their good old days and how she would want to do it again. I advised him not to run, but flee from her. I had always told him that the power of a woman can easily make a fool out of the wisest of men, but I guess that power was already working on him at that moment. He didn’t seem convinced, despite my attempts to list the men, right from the biblical Samson to the fictional Romeo, whose downfall was as a result of a retake with their ex-girls. He went against my advice and chose to meet her, pleading that “The first cut is the deepest.” They agreed to meet at a rendezvous out of town. She opened up to him and regretted why she had chosen the public servant over him. She shed a bucket of tears and in the end requested for financial assistance to start a private business to meet her personal needs. The power of this woman nailed him down once again and he parted with a handsome chunk of money. Two months down the road, he is walking in the trading centre and notices his ex-girlfriend’s shop attendant running a supermarket. He walks into the supermarket, only to see that the certificates of incorporation and operation were in her names. He left the supermarket cursing history, blaming it for repeating itself. Indeed ‘The first cut is the deepest’; it inflicts grievous injury.
