FIRST PORSCHE TYPE 991 HITS NEW ZEALAND The first current generation 2014 Porsche Type 991 911 GT3 Cup race car has hit New Zealand shores. Owned by former Ferrari Asia Pacific Challenge and Super Trofeo Asia driver Jun Han Zhu, the Porsche was taken out for its second shake-down yesterday at Hampton Downs with the aid of International Motorsport - following its first test day at Taupo Motorsport Park last month. Former A1GP star Jonny Reid was also at the wheel, directing the Chinese driver around the Hampton Downs facility. It is unknown at this stage where the car will be competing, though it is unlikely to line up at the final round of the North Island Endurance Series. Velocity NZ understands that plans for the cars competition are still to be decided at this stage - although entry in Novembers Highlands 101 endurance event, or outright entry in the South Island Endurance Series could not be ruled out. The Porsche wasnt the only race car being tested - the majority of International Motorsports Porsche 911 racing fleet also taking to the track, as well as the Endless Brakes Nissan R35 GTR recently built by the illustrious race team. The Type 991 is similar to those raced across the globe in international Carrera Cup competition - including those raced in the Australian Carrera Cup by the likes of Kiwi Craig Baird and expatriate Steve Richards. Those in Auckland wanting to see the Porsche can see it at this weekends CRC Speedshow, where it will be on display.
