FISH FRY WILL NOT MOVE “FISH FRY WILL REMAIN IN THE CHILDREN’S PARK IN THE BIGHT”- PREMIER HON. DR. RUFUS EWING PREMIER EWING’S DIRECTIVE TO THE GOVERNMENT AGENCIES DEMA AND THE TOURIST BOARD BACK IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, Tuesday February 25, 2014 – Further to an article released today by the TCI Sun News entitled “FISH FRY TO BE EVICTED FROM THE BIGHT PARK” the Office of the Premier advises that the Fish Fry will continue to operate from the Children’s Park in the Bight. The letter that was published by the TCI Sun, was indeed sent to the Tourist Board by DEMA following internal disputes relating to operational costs and other outstanding matters, that have since been resolved. In discussions with the Tourist Board and DEMA on February 3, 2014, the Premier, Hon. Dr. Rufus Ewing made it extremely clear that the Fish Fry will remain in its current location at the Children’s Park in the Bight until such time that the Government sees it fit for it to be moved. He commented, “The Fish Fry is a part of who we are, it is a national event to the benefit of all. While the Ministry will work with the Tourist Board to ensure that all commitments are met, the Fish Fry will remain at the Children’s Park in the Bight, until we have found the suitable location for its permanent positioning, one that will benefit the small and medium businesses that are associated with the hospitality industry.” The Ministry of Tourism and DEMA under the Ministry of Environment and Home Affairs continue to support the Fish Fry as a part of our cultural events and as an opportunity for our local restaurants to get further exposure, many of whom have become dependent on the Fish Fry to make that weeks’ earnings. In the one year of operation, the Fish Fry has become extremely popular among the locals and tourists alike, who flock every Thursday evening to the Children’s Park in the Bight to be a part of a Turks and Caicos Islands cultural celebration.
