FKJGP submits ‘Mission to change’ to CM Written by Meghalaya Times. Posted in Front Page Staff Reporter TURA, Sept 18: The Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People - Western Zone (FKJGP-WZ)met the Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma, on Sunday last and submitted a memorandum on the present situation in Garo Hills at the Circuit House. The NGO presented their ‘Mission to change’ to the CM enumerating five points that needed immediate attention and expressed their satisfaction after the promise by Sangma to look at the issues and work at solutions. The five point agenda included the GNM nurse case along with the 225 home guards displaced recently, the presence of a Commissioner of Division within Garo Hills, the resolution to the problems with the petrol pump association working lesser hours. “A total number of 399 GNM candidates passed the exam out of which only 5 were Garo candidates. Only 11 Garo candidates appeared for the exam against the 72 tentative seats reserved for the community, yet only 5 of them were deemed to have passed the exams. The reservation should have been for 72,” said FKJGP-WZ president Pritam Marak further stating that a redressal was something that was needed to ensure that the reservation policy is followed. The Federation further asked for the CM to look at reducing the cut off marks to aid the maintenance of job reservation. “Another disturbing event is the recruitment process of the ANM Nurses Candidates who have been awaiting appointment since 2008. Nurses before 2008 where appointed by the DHS (MI) directly on basis of seniority and merit without any form of exam. However since 2010 no such appointments were made from the students who passed from 2008 onwards. Currently there are 400 vacant posts which are yet to be filled,” added Marak. “These vacant posts are yet to be filled by the eligible candidates after the passed out trainees did not appear for the exams questioning the appointment process which breaks the precedence and tradition of the recruitment of ANM Nurses. The DHS (MI) insists that as per the Meghalaya Nursing Service Rules written exams are mandatory for the recruitment of nurses. We hope that justice will be meted to these passed out trainees as a gesture of your comity,” read the memorandum. The loss of 225 jobs of the Forest Home guards was also highlighted by the NGO which asked the CM to help the people to be retaken into service. “The sudden and unceremonious termination of the services of 225 home guard officials deputed under the forest department on 25 June 2014 was unprecedented. We feel that the act of the authorities has directly or indirectly violated the ‘Right to live’ of the 225 families of the personnel who were relieved from their duties,” said the FKJGP-WZ General Secretary, Raksrang Sangma. The FKJGP-WZ has also demanded the permanent stationing of a Commissioner of Division within Garo Hills as well as the presence of an IGP. “Despite the presence of the office of the Commissioner of Divisions, the establishment stands non-functional owing to the fact that the authorized head of the office is not stationed in Tura but in Shillong,” added Sangma. Further, the Federation asked the CM to intervene in the ongoing agitation by the petrol pump workers to ensure things did not affect the normal functioning of life within the region.
