FLAIR – ART COUTURE FOR EYEWEAR offers a vision of the future They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery and, indeed, FLAIR’s president, Gunter Fink, is proud that his glamorous brand of glasses inspires a host of copycat designs. “Only good frames are copied, but cheaper production methods means they can’t achieve the same levels of quality.” FLAIR ART COUTURE And quality is the absolute watchword for this high-end, 65-year-old German company. Founded by Dr. Eugen Beck in 1946, FLAIR first specialized in plastic hair clips and combs before moving into handmade acetate spectacle frames and, eventually, metal. FLAIR’s hand-finished ranges embrace both rimless minimalistic and also a stunning art couture premium line, which features 24-karat goldplating and incorporates sparkling SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS, along with matching valuable accessories such as rings, earrings, scarves and pendants. FLAIR proudly distinguishes itself from its competitors with the use of patented high-tech materials. The FLAIR pure technology and FLAIR pure technology 2 employs a special nylon glazing technique, while nickel-free Bio-Steel® has a level of elasticity similar to the material used to knit broken bones together. Their lightest rimless glasses weigh in at just 3.7 grams. They have been working with Swarovski since 2001, each SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS collection prompting new ideas for frames. “Releasing the crystals’ brilliance and fire is key, so we fix them individually, with great precision, using nylon thread rather than glue so that they have flexibility and strong color.” For Gunter Fink, the combination of amazing frames and diamond-like SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS is “like a piece of beautiful music”. Crystals, he says, are the “magical aspect that can transform eyewear into works of art”, which we think perfectly describes FLAIR glasses.
