FMD: FOOT MOUTH DISEASE Foot-and-Mouth Disease is a highly contagious viral disease of cattle, pigs, sheep, goats which spreads rapidly. Vaccination is an important tool for containing the dangerous disease(FMD). Vaccinate your animals (cow buffalo sheep & goats)at 3-4 months of age with inactivated tissue culture oil adjuvant FMD vaccine. Repeat vaccination annually.(Some manufacturer recommend two booster vaccination for calves first booster vaccination is done AT 4-6 weeks after first vaccination & second booster is given 24 weeks of first booster). It is recommended to use oil adjuvant vaccine as it provides immunity for longer period. Read manufacturer instruction carefully before vaccination. In case of outbreak isolate the sick animals, disinfect your shed, restrict movement of vehicles & visitors to your farm & use antiseptic foot bath at the entrance of your farm. In western countries infected animals are slaughtered to contain the disease.
