FOLASOPHICAL-MONDAY MORNING MUNCH!!! BUHARI vs. JONATHAN: THE DIFFERENCE IS CLEAR You can point mean and sinister accusing fingers at APC’s Presidential candidate, General Mohammadu Buhari for some unfounded, fabricated and concocted stories, but you cannot accuse him of corruption. You can accuse him of not having a PhD in Zoology, but you cannot accuse him of lack of knowledge of how life and government work. You can accuse him of resolute commitment to his faith and God, but you cannot accuse him of religious fundamentalism, hatred and bias. These were his words recently: “People accuse me of many things. I have led this country and I have a record. We were not perfect, but we were effective; we solved problems, and we made Nigerians proud. In our government, we fought corruption, we stabilized the naira, and we shut down insurgencies. We shouldn’t forget so soon that there was Maitatsine ravaging the north east and we dealt with it. We also overran the Chadian rebels. We rebuilt industries, Nigerians queued up and treated each other with respect; Nigerians took pride in our reputation for discipline. The world admired us. We were proud to be Nigerians. Because they can’t attack our record, they accuse me falsely of ethnic jingoism; they accuse me falsely of religious fundamentalism… Even as Head of State, we never imposed Sha’riah. All my running mates have been either Igbo or Yoruba and always Christian. I have and will continue to condemn those who burn God’s places of worship, be they churches or mosques and wish God’s judgment upon them”. In this year’s election, the difference is clear. But I want to remind us all that the stench and catastrophe that the stranglehold and ineptitude of the PDP has created will take some time to clean up. I will not join those who falsely hope that on May 29th, 2015, General Mohammadu Buhari and Professor Yemi Osinbajo will walk on to the terrain as captains and annihilate the dragon and Dracula of corruption in Nigeria at one fell swoop. What I am sure of, however, is that the General will not be annoyingly docile and biddable while some hawks stack dollars in a jet; the General will not shield his lieutenants from giving accurate account of mismanaged funds in their charge, he will not give confirmed looters passes to aspire to higher political offices while cases of graft are pending against them; and Buhari will not give free tickets to anyone, big or small, to militantly loot the nation’s treasury to languor, lassitude and coma as we have today. I am hopeful, as we all are, of a systematized rebuilding of a more solid foundation upon which the Nigeria of our dream will be erected. Why am I sure of this? He has done it before, and that settles it for me and millions of Nigerians who are on the side of progress. SMACKDOWN STRAIGHTUP TALK!!!
