FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL CELEBRATES RURAL HERITAGE The rich, rural heritage of South Georgia will be highlighted during the annual Folklife Festival, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. April 5 at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The event showcases history, art and culture runs and is part of ABACs Homecoming Week. The highlight of the festival is the turpentine still, with its ceremonial firing at 11 a.m. The festival will also includes the American Legacy Quilt Show and the Tifton Garden Clubs Welcome to Our Garden flower show in the museum atrium. The museum gallery will exhibit Her Life in Quilts, a one-woman exhibit spotlighting the work of 2013 American Legacy Viewers Choice quilter Sue Turnquist. In the main hall, the Egg Commissions Eggzibit will open. Other activities include entertainment from the Poultry Palace and its talented chickens, the Little River Wood Turners at the Variety Works building, square dancing, a fiddlers jamboree and gospel singing. The Folklife Festival will also offer demonstrations of tree debarking and hewing, mule plowing and farrier work. Guests may also try their hand at sheep shearing, wool spinning, weaving, wool washing and butter-making. There is an admission fee. Contact the Country Store at 229-391-5205.
