James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. Welcome to another beautiful day. The Lord grant you your heart desires today. After a man confesses Jesus as Lord and saviour, the man is born again in his spirit. It is the responsibility of the man to put off the old man or lay apart all filthiness. The man must discontinue every form of worldliness but as he puts off the old man, he must put on the new man. The old man here refers to the old corrupt state of the heart. The former nature we inherited from Adam. The disobedient nature that doesnt submit to God and has nothing to do with God. Putting off the old man and putting on the new man is done simultaneously. The scriptures tells us to put off the old man as if we are putting off a cloth or putting off a switch because as born again persons, we have grace to reject the old man. Our born again Spirit will no longer be comfortable with our old man as they can never be compatible. We put off the old by laying apart all filthiness and we put on the new man by studying the word of God, meditating on it & understanding it and practising it daily. This allows the principles by which the old man operated to die thereby giving chance to the principles of the word Of God which is the knowledge the new man needs to take the place of the old man. This is a process that we must do everything to continue so the old man will be completely put off and the new man will begin to influence our lives. As the principles of the old man are dying because we are allowing the knowledge of the word of God to influence our soul, our Newman is being renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.
