FOOD FOR THOUGHT: The Art of Leadership Read Joshua 1:1 through 3:17 The Book of Joshua begins with the death of Moses and the installment of Joshua as leader. Indeed Joshua had big shoes to fill. Yet, Joshua wasn’t simply thrown into leadership. Both God and Moses had prepared him for his new role. Joshua had accompanied Moses on Mount Sinai as well as in the Tent of Meeting where God had made himself visible to the people. Moses allowed an eager Joshua to stand by his side to “learn the ropes.” “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go” (Joshua 1:7). Healthy leadership requires patience and the ability to teach. If a ministry or organization falls apart in the absence of its leader, then the leader did not lead very well. True leadership means molding and empowering future leaders. Thought for Today: What kind of leader are you? Do you encourage growth in those around you or do you lead alone?
