FOOT CAST AND FANCY FREE A sharp but localized pain in the foot - TopicsExpress

FOOT CAST AND FANCY FREE A sharp but localized pain in the foot produced not a diagnosis but a doctor’s decision to immobilize the lower leg with a ski-boot cast, reaching almost to the knee. This provokes curiosity, but it seers totally boring to explain a monster cast by a tiny pain. So I am trying other explanations. No one believes the skiing accident or rattlesnake stories, but these seem to produce momentary credulity: “Never kick a porcupine.” “Dam Lobster.” “They really do need better safety locks on pistols.” “Good thing it was a beaver trap, not a bear trap.” Better still, I find, is to co-opt the inquirer in fabrication. “What story do you think I should tell?” Best so far: You were hiking in Greece when an attractive young woman came up and started making advances to you. You resisted, but her husband, who had been watching from a distance, rushed down and kicked you over a cliff. You were lucky to survive with only a broken fibula.” Other suggestions will be much appreciated.
