FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 1:00PM, MAY 19, 2014 MAY 25TH KIM HENDERSON MEMORIAL UPDATE. To the fans and supporters of Vermilion County Speedway, Sincere gratitude to all those who have stepped forward with generous lap sponsor donations for the Inaugural Kim Henderson Memorial event. The staff at VCS and the Henderson family would like to personally thank everyone for the overwhelming support. All sponsorship laps for the 40 lap feature have been spoken for at this time, however there are still several fans that have offered to donate if additional laps were available. After discussions with AMS officials, the Henderson family and several of the lap sponsors, VCS is excited to announce an added bonus and format change to the evenings racing event. To begin, VCS is adding a 20 lap non-qualifiers race for the top 20 non-qualifiers. This will allow all 20 drivers a second chance at UMP points for the evening and an additional chance at prize money. The 20 lap race will pay a minimum of $750 to win and $100 to start the race. Any race fans and supporters still wishing to become lap sponsors will be able to reserve a lap in this special added race that will be referred to as the “Francis Hathaway Tribute, in memory of this lifelong, dedicated VCS race fan. MORE ABOUT THIS EVENT. The staff at VCS was deeply saddened by the sudden passing of long time track supporter Mr. Kim Henderson of Danville, IL. Kim had been actively involved in improving and maintaining the speedway for many years. Much of what you see today, as far as improvements to the facility go, are thanks in part to the countless hours of his volunteer efforts. He was a very dear friend to the speedway and the racing community. He will be dearly missed. Although many of us are still with heavy heart from the passing of our friend, our thoughts have turned to the future and how we can pay tribute to a man that gave so much to the racing community. On behalf of the Vermilion County Speedway, MMP Promotions would like to announce the running of the “Kim Henderson Memorial” scheduled for Sunday, May 25, 2014. This race will run in conjunction with the Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series visiting Farmer City Raceway on Friday, May 23, and Fairbury American Legion Speedway on May 24th. VCS promoters Brad Key and Bryan Clendenen, are elated by the opportunity to have one the biggest modified races in the Midwest. “It’s bittersweet for us. We have lost a racing brother, but now we have a way to pay tribute to a great man. We are just thrilled to have this opportunity to work with the Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series. They have a great organization that will bring many of the best modified racers in the country to VCS. We know Kim will be watching over us, so we will do everything we can to pay tribute to him and make this one of the best modified events of the year.” The second part the format change involves a slight restructuring of the purse. At the request of many of our kind contributors and members of the Henderson family, it was decided that $1,000 of the lap sponsor money will go to the winner, and $1,000 will be distributed evenly among the Top 10 finishers of the Kim Henderson Memorial Feature Race. This should make for an extremely exciting event, from start to finish, and more rewarding for all those involved. Full purses will be posted soon. 40 LAP INAUGURAL KIM HENDERSON MEMORIAL LAP SPONSORS 1. Mackenzie Abbott 2. Classy Critters Pet Grooming 3. Joe Spiker (Lincoln Park Speedway) 4.
