FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 4 JULY 2014 Tamati Coffey’s Big Red Spectacular to hit Rotorua Tamati Coffey - Labour Candidate for Rotorua is proud to announce the date of his spectacular “Big Red Fundraiser” to be held on July 26th at the historic Blue Baths of Rotorua. The night will be introduced by ex-Labour MP for Rotorua, her Worship the Mayor, Steve Chadwick followed by a speech by Labour Party leader, the Hon. David Cunliffe who will be guest speaker for the evening. Both speeches will set the tone for what will be one of the best nights on the 2014 Rotorua calendar. Tamati has called on friends from across the entertainment spectrum to perform at this unique gala fundraiser. Guests will be welcomed at the Blue Baths entrance by two of NZ’s premiere Drag artsites, Buckwheat and Tess Tickle, who will also perform shows during the evening, providing glitz, glam and a whole lot of fun! After being treated to a Red cocktail on arrival, guests proceed into the ‘Lido Lounge’ to be serenaded by Robbie Howard, a student studying music at Waiariki Institute of Technology and someone that Tamati confidently says is “an amazing talent that both the X Factor and NZ’s Got Talent scouts totally missed!” The evening will feature the winners of Glenholme Primary’s talent quest “Glenholme’s Got Talent” and wrap up with energetic funky performances by the Diamond Divas, finallists of New Zealands Got Talent 2013. All these acts have come together for one night only as a fundraiser for Tamati Coffey’s political camapaign as he tries to raise the funds necessary to for his journey into Parliament. “I’ve given up my career in television, and therefore my income, to run full-time for this campaign, so I have to rely on grassroots fundraising, like this, to pay for billboards, pamphlets, even milk for the cups of tea at our Labour Lounge. Running for Parliament is a costly business when you have no income!” Local businesses and individuals have generously put items and experiences up for auction, including a contemporary painting by the Opotiki based artist, Te Mete Solomon-Smith. The piece, entitled - ‘Tamati Coffey. Manawa’ is a “stylised portrait that evokes an affection of hope, to encourage people to believe again” says the young Maori artist. The word “Manawa” is a maori word, which means to welcome hope and to inspire others to be the best they can be. Other items include a weekend’s accomodation including a dinner at Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour, a hangi and concert family pass for Tamaki Maori Village, Kaitiaki Adventures white water rafting, and even dinner at Tamati’s house!
