FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Downtown Toms River’s Jersey Fresh Farmers Market Extends its Season Further, and Will Again Welcome Secretary of Agriculture TOMS RIVER, NJ - Farmers and vendors who sell their wares at the weekly Downtown Toms River Farmers’ Market and the Toms River Business Development Corporation (TRBDC), which produces the market, announce that they will extend the market again this year. Instead of ending the last Wednesday in October (30th), and, for the second consecutive year-- having a Special Thanksgiving Market on the Monday before Thanksgiving, the market will now go through November. The last Wednesday market will be on the 20th, and there will still be a Special Thanksgiving event on Monday the 25th. In 2012, the market was slated to end after the first week in October, but attendees, farmers and vendors petitioned to extend the market through October. Then, they requested that there be a pre-Thanksgiving market day. “There is obviously overwhelming support from the regular patrons of our market and from the farmers and vendors to keep it going as long as they have product to sell and the weather cooperates,” said TRBDC Executive Director Jody Alessandrine. “This is evidence for the quality of market participants, the loyalty of our local residents who shop weekly, and the time and energy put into this event by our marketing director, Arlene Read. Producing the market for what will be a total of 29 weeks is no easy task. Very few markets start as early and extend so far into the Fall,” he added. The TRBDC also announced that New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas Fisher will now attend the Wednesday, October 2nd Downtown Toms River Farmers’ Market, marking the second year that he has visited Toms River’s Jersey Fresh weekly event. The Downtown Toms River Farmers’ Market takes place in Lot H, the parking lot on the southeast corner of W. Water St. and Irons St. It begins at 11 a.m., and ends at 5 p.m. rain or shine. The award-winning market features as many as eight farmers, a dozen vendors, as well as Downtown Toms River food, retail, and service-oriented businesses that set-up a booth at the market. The first Wednesday of each month features a special drawing where attendees can enter to win a basket of fresh, seasonal goodies. The Oct 2nd basket will feature Apples & Pumpkins.
