FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 18, 2013 The Paintsville Independent School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Joe Chirico as Head Coach of the Paintsville High School Varsity Football Program. Mr. Chirico has served as an assistant football coach for the past 15 seasons, 4 years at Prestonsburg High School and 11 years with the Paintsville Tigers. Joe Chirico was a three year starter in basketball and football at Logan (WV) High School from 1986-1989 and was a member of the National Championship team at Marshall University. Chirico is regarded as one of the most versatile athletes in the history of Logan H.S. As a basketball standout, he led the Wildcats to a pair of state tournament appearances. On the gridiron, Chirico was selected to the AAA all-state squad for two consecutive seasons (1987 & 1988). He is also a member of the Logan High School Hall of Fame. Chirico finished his career as a four-year letterman at Marshall University, where he played an instrumental part in leading the Thundering Herd to one NCAA Division I-AA National Championship (1992) and two other national championship game appearance (1991 & 1993). He is second all-time in Marshall University history with career interceptions (13) and notched three picks in a game against Appalachian State during the 1990 season. Joe and his wife, Ashley, reside in Staffordsville, KY with their four children Sydney, Presley, Isabella and Brayden. Joe Chirico will immediately assume day to day operations of the Tiger Football Program.
