FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PHAT FREE NATION, INC., DBA OPTIMUM HEALTH SOLUTION, RECEIVES EBAY FOUNDATION GRANT FOR REAL KIDS REAL FOOD, SOMERVILLE, MA, December 27, 2014 - https://youtube/watch?v=GT4yKMXFdx8 Phat Free Nation, Inc., dba Optimum Health Solution, a nonprofit organization committed to preventing obesity, chronic disease and malnutrition in children, announced today that it has been awarded a $5,000.00 grant from the eBay Foundation Corporate Advised Fund at Silicon Valley Community Foundation. The grant was recommended by eBay Foundation’s employee-volunteer led Boston GIVE Team. Funds will be used to support the Real Kids Real Food program, in its fourth year, to reverse the shocking national trends of obesity and childhood diabetes. This year’s program, at Mystic Public Housing in East Somerville, MA, will feature validation of program success and the creation of an instructional e-book to support launching this program nationally. Through hands-on activities encompassing local and organic food, farming and gardening, grocery shopping, planning and preparing nutritious meals, children, ages 5 to 12 of diverse populations in public housing, learn how to achieve and continue an overall healthy lifestyle. The program broadens the children’s exposure to making healthy choices with the focus on affordability while incorporating physical activities and parent involvement throughout the year. Optimum Health Solution has piloted this program in other public housing environments with measurable success. “In addition to the devastating toll on quality of life and premature death of obese individuals, the economic toll of obesity exceeded a staggering $168 billion dollars in 2011 in the United States, and exceeded $2 billion dollars here in Massachusetts. The bottom line: Early prevention is the key to success in eliminating obesity and its high health costs. Real Kids Real Food holds that key”, said Betsy Bragg, Executive Director of Phat Free Nation, dba Optimum Health Solution. Real Kids Real Food was made possible in part through eBay Foundation’s GIVE Team program, which empowers employees of eBay Inc. to support their communities through volunteerism and employee-sponsored grants. In 2013 alone, GIVE Teams worldwide recommended over 200 nonprofits to receive grants totaling more than $1,100,000. “eBay Foundation was established to reach beyond the boundaries of eBay’s virtual village to develop strong communities that bring people together,” said Amy Millington President of eBay Foundation. “Through our GIVE Teams, we’ve been able to identify and support a wide variety of outstanding programs that feed families in the San Francisco Bay Area, educate children in India, assist seniors in Germany, mentor at-risk youth in Omaha and serve the homeless in Austin – to name a few. We couldn’t be happier to add to our list of beneficiaries by supporting Phat Free Nation, Inc., dba Optimum Health Solution, in its efforts to prevent obesity, chronic disease and malnutrition.” ABOUT Phat Free Nation, Inc., dba Optimum Health Solution Phat Free Nation, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) organization, founded in 2005, is committed to providing health education, training, and hands-on nutritional engagement with the mission to prevent obesity, chronic disease and malnutrition in children.
