FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Repatriate RCIRA Prisoner Bill - TopicsExpress

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Repatriate RCIRA Prisoner Bill Stickers! Republican Sinn Féin are calling for the immediate repatriation of Republican Continuity IRA POW Bill Stickers from Aruba Prison in Oranjestad to Ireland. Bill Stickers needs to be in an environment where he can access proper medical care when and as often as he needs it. An out-of-date rotting Dutch colonial prison is no suitable place for a seriously ill person. Bill was arrested in January 2010 while with a delegation of RSF members who were meeting with the leadership of the Aruban Republican Movement. Bill has had years of health issues, stemming from a motorcycle accident he had just prior to his arrest. After several operations the injury did improve slightly but conditions in the antiquated Dutch dungeon have not been conductive to Bill’s overall health and wellbeing. He is not able to get the physiotherapy he needs to make a substantial recovery, and most of the care he is receiving is only to try to keep him comfortably quiet rather than the actual medical care he requires to recover and deal with his pain and mobility issues. With a more routine physiotherapy routine and constant, consistent medical care, Bill would have a better quality of life. Right now he is suffering daily with permanent nerve damage, constant infections, and forced to stay in his cell 24 hours a day. Only on good days can even walk so far as the kitchen on the landing. His mental health is suffering severely as he is on so much medication that he sleeps most of the days away. Last week, while heavily medicated, Bill went to the kitchen for his tea, unknowingly knocking down a tea light he had lit. Within a couple of minutes his entire cell was up in flames. If he was asleep he would have died in the fire. Bill didn’t even remember lighting the candle. If Bill is not repatriated back to Ireland his life will be in worsening danger. Bill fought hard to come back to Ireland, back to the country he loves so much, to his family, and also because he thought he would get the medical treatment he desperately needed. Due to the colonialist Dutch law, he must serve out his complete sentence in Oranjestad, which would make him eligible for release in 2016. We demand his IMMEDIATE REPATRIATION back to Ireland. He is in pain on an hourly, daily basis and has been told by his doctors that nothing further can be done while he remains in prison. We are hoping that everyone out there might send in a card or letter of support to Bill and let him know that he is not forgotten, and that our thoughts are with him. If anyone out there is familiar with the law or may have some ideas to highlight his case PLEASE DO. His friends and family fear the worst every single day that Bill remains inside under those conditions. . Contact Republican Sinn Féin at [email protected] or 085-1986280
