FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 15, 2014 Media Contact: Christopher Quintyne Acting Town Administrator (301) 336-0626 cquintyne@capitolheightsmd TOWN OF CAPITOL HEIGHTS HIRES NEW TOWN ADMINISTRATOR (Capitol Heights, MD) – After a three month nationwide search, the Mayor and Council are pleased to announce Mr. Stevie Cox as its selection for the Town Administrator position. The position was vacated in June 2014. The selection process was highly competitive. The Town received over 60 applications from all over the country. Cox, who currently serves as the Town Manager for Chadbourn, North Carolina, has 25 years of government experience which includes local, county, and federal experience. Cox is credited for bringing in $15 million for infrastructure and community development projects in the Town of Chadbourn. He is also responsible for administrative oversight of Chadbourn’s Finance, Parks and Recreation, Police, Public Works, and Water and Sewer Departments. Cox will lead similar efforts for the Town of Capitol Heights and be responsible for the day-to-day operations while working to achieve the vision and goals put forth by the Mayor and Council. “We are pleased to have Mr. Cox join our staff. He brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and a hands-on approach which is vital to the operation of this Town,” said Mayor King. “Not only will he bring a strong focus on planning and zoning to the Town, but we look forward to new and innovative ideas that will upsurge revenue and home ownership in our Town.” Cox’s proven expertise in fiscal management, grant writing, planning and development will be valuable to the Town of Capitol Heights who is actively working with a master developer on a multimillion dollar mixed use (residential and commercial) economic development project at the Capitol Heights Metro. Cox is a native of Clinton, NC; however, he is no stranger to the DC Metro area. He previously worked as a purchasing agent for the National Institutes of Health at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland where he was responsible for overseeing an annual spending budget of up to $20 million. He is also a former Planning Coordinator for the City of East St. Louis, IL; Neighborhood Planner for the City of Monroe, NC; and Community Development Officer for Elizabeth City, NC. Prior to his appointment in Chadbourn, Cox was the Director of Planning for Columbus County, NC which has nearly 60,000 residents. To compliment his experience, Cox holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wake Forest University in Communications and a Master of Arts degree from St. Louis University in Urban Affairs. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Community Development Academy and Municipal Administration Course at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a member of several professional associations and boards of directors including the American Planning Association, International Economic Development Corporation (CUED), and Columbus County Partnership for Children, to name a few. Cox is married to Robin Magee-Cox, a 6th grade Math teacher, and they are the proud parents of one daughter. Cox said, “I’m looking forward to bringing a great deal of passion and excitement to the Town Administrator position.” The Town Council is confident in Cox’s skills and ability to effectively operate the Town and is eager to work with him to enhance Town services and amenities for our citizens.
