FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, October 23rd, 2014 CONTACT: Julie Gonzales: 720-891-2712 julie@themeyerlawoffice Press Conference TODAY: Immigration Detainees File Historic Federal Wage Complaint Against GEO Detention Center for Violation of Colorado Wage and Hour Law and Forced Labor Practices Denver, CO – For the first time in Colorado history, immigrant detainees at Colorado’s sole immigration detention center will file a federal complaint demanding that the for-profit GEO Group, Inc. end its practices of using detainees to clean, maintain, and operate GEO’s Aurora ICE Processing Center for a wage of one dollar ($1) per day, and forcing detainees to work, for no paywhatsoever, cleaning the cells where detainees are housed, under threat of solitary confinement. The plaintiffs seek to recover, on their own behalf and on behalf of all other detainees who worked for GEO, the difference between the wages they earned and the $1 per day they were paid, as well as compensation for the hours they were forced to work for no pay whatsoever.
