FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, June 18, 2014 Heavy Rains Damage Roads Out West, Highway 85 Closed RAPID CITY, S.D. – State officials say heavy rains overnight in western South Dakota forced the closure of Highways 85 and 20 with water over the road in several locations. Water has receded and Highway 20 has been inspected and re-opened to traffic. However, Highway 85 remains closed from three and one-half miles north of junction Highway 212 (Belle Fourche) to three-quarters of a mile south of junction Highway 20 due to road damage from flooding at mile markers 74, 75 and 87, north and south of Highway 168. Crews are on-site to assess the damage and begin repairs, weather permitting. More rain is forecast for today (Wednesday) and motorists are reminded not to drive through water over roadways. Travelers are urged to visit safetravelusa/SD or to call 511 to check latest road conditions in their area.
