FOR THE RECORD..... The Tunica Humane Society has recently been criticized by the local citizens of Tunica Cut-Off concerning our adoption policy and I feel I need to set the record straight because I know things are being said that are not truthful. Many of you have commented on our page and you need to have your facts straight before judging us so harshly. Just as every other reputable rescue organization across the Mid-South, we have strong quidelines on our adoptions and one of those requirements is that you have a securely fenced yard. It does not matter if you live at Tunica Lake, in the town of Tunica, in Collierville, in Germantown, or in Desoto County or surrounding areas. On our adoptions, we require a fenced yard. This decision is not targeted at the citizens of Tunica Cut-Off. The few times we have broken our rules locally, for our friends and neighbors, it has resulted in the untimely death of some of our rescues. We seldom make exceptions to that rule now. The young lady from Tunica-Cut Off was not allowed to adopt one of our dogs for one simple reason. She does not have a fenced yard to keep the dog within boundaries. NEVER did I make the comment that the people at Tunica Cut-Off dont take care of their dogs. I did make the comment that many of them are allowed to roam out there and it has been a source of complaints to our organization for many years. We have picked up dozens of dogs from the cut-off over the years.. It would be nice for the Tunica Humane Society to be noticed in our own backyard for the tireless work that we do. In the last 6 years, we have removed over 3500 stray dogs from our community. Not a week goes by, that we dont pick up the pieces of some of these dogs that have been hit by cars. If you dealt with the heartache and burden that we do daily, then you might better understand our decision on our adoption policies. Unfortunately, it is always the local community that is so quick to criticize our organization. It is very easy to set back and talk about someone unjustly, but until you are willing to put in the 80 hour work week that I do, keeping the Tunica Animal Shelter running, it would be nice if you had your facts straight. There are many things broken in Tunica County right now. The Tunica Humane Society is not one of them. It is sad to see so many of you want to do harm to the one group of people that are trying so hard to make a difference in this community. Sandy Williams
