FOREIGN TOURISTS WORKING IN GOA ON TOURIST VISA Today another illegal Russian reps was manhandled by taxi drivers at Zuri hotel. These illegal russian reps on tourist visas take business out of the hands of registered goan taxi drivers and goan tour operators as well as poor goan individuals that wish to work as sales reps, receptionists etc in OUR OWN LAND. Taxi drivers have often highlighted this issue time and again and ever so often a new incident comes to light, Either it is the taxi drivers accosting one of these illegal russian reps or the russian taxi drivers assaulting a goan taxi driver trying to make a living legally in his own state and country. It is estimated that there are over 300 such illegal russian taxi driver, reps, tour guides and receptionists that are flouting Indian Tourist Visa regulations and working mostly in North Goa but now venturing slowly in the south. We Indians believe in Athithi Devo Bhava (Tourist is like God) and we treat them as such but when tourists themselves cross the line and take our jobs and our income this is just not acceptable. Time and again when our Goan taxi drivers and tour operators identify such reps and hand them to the police, NO ACTION is taken. This cannot be happening unless this illegal business has patronage from the Government and ministers themselves as well as the police. In any other country, working while on a tourist visa calls for immediate deportation, black marking the tourist agency that obtained the visa for the person and a 3-5 year ban on re-entry. Not in Goa. In Goa they have more rights than locals to steal gainful employment from hardworking locals that are trying to make ends meet. Not just that these fraudulent agencies that haul these peasant Europeans (Russians) to Goa but now they have been emboldened by the states inaction (or collusion) much to the extent of selling complete Russian organized tour packages abroad in dollars with services of a Russian guide and a Russian customer support rep et all. What is even more disgusting is that the paid media turns the table on out goan taxi drivers and tour operators whenever they haul some illegal immigrant working to the authorities by stating that themob attacked tourists and that the tourist ran for help to the authorities. I can recall at least 3 such incidents where the illegal immigrant who worked as a rep was taken without any harm to the authorities and the next day the new read that they were brutally heckling or attacking the tourist. The media and ministers choose to defame the taxi drivers instead of rowdy behavior. ZERO ACTION has been taken by the authorities on such tourists flouting visa regulations and law of the land but the authorities are quick to act against us goans be it for the silliest of reasons. Parrikar you need to come clean on this. Did the Russians elect you to power? Are you incapable of maintaining law and order even when perpetrators who your Police and Intelligence department should be caputing oon their own are hauled to you by Goans themselves? What is the deal? You are pushing our buttons. Asking the taxi drivers to install taxi meters is fine to have a consistent tariff but what about these fraudulent tour and taxi operators from Russia that charge in dollars and pay no taxes? isnt that FERA violation?
