FORFAR WEST END 2 MATCH REPORTS: 1ST REPORT Date: Saturday 28th September 2013 Competition: McBookie North Division Opponents: Newburgh JFC Venue: Strathmore Park, Forfar "6 Goal Thriller In Forfar" Daryl McKenzie knew that his troops had a great chance to go joint top of the league this afternoon with other challengers away on cup duties, the Strathmore men knew this was going to be a tough encounter as recent away results have shown that the Fife side will be a tough nut to crack. Neil Docherty The game was under way and the home side meant business from the off. 7MINS: CHANCE: A great run down the right from COX and his snap shot just going wide of the post. 14MINS: GOAL: West End opened the scoring after a great interchange between MUCKERSIE and SCOTT the latter fired in a cross were RAMSAY was waiting and he smashed the ball into the roof of the net (FWE 1-0 NEW). 19MINS: The away side started to mount some chances of their own and went close when a looping header just went over from a corner. 25MINS: GOAL: The away side then did get themselves back into the game when a mix up in the West End backline resulted in the ball falling kindly for McLeish who coolly side footed the ball home from close range (FWE 1-1 NEW). 30-45MINS – With both teams having some half chances, the sides went in all square at the interval, with this game very much in the balance. 45MINS: HALF TIME Half Time Score: Forfar West End JFC 1-1 Newburgh JFC (Ramsay 15) (McLeish 25) The second half was under way. 50MINS: SUBSITUTION: SMITH OFF, DOCHERTY ON. 60MINS: CHANCE: On the hour mark West End went close to regaining the lead when COX fired in a low drive but the keeper was equal to the task 65MINS: SUBSITUTION: TINLEY OFF, BLACK ON. 70 MINS: GOAL: The home side edged in front in this close encounter when COX had the beating of 3 defenders and his cross found SCOTT to sweeped the ball home from close range (FWE 2-1 NEW). 75MINS: SUBSITUTION: MUCKERSIE 0FF, IRONS ON. 80MINS: GOAL: It was IRONS who made an immediate impact coming on from the bench, as he found space in to box to prod home a SCOTT cross (FWE 3-1 NEW). 85MINS: GOAL: A lifeline for the away side when a Ferguson cross somehow looped over PETERS and into the net (FWE 3-2 NEW) 87MINS: RED CARD: The task for West End now became even tougher to hang on to the 3 points as MCDONALD was given his marching orders for 2 yellow card offences. 92MIN: GOAL: Disaster for the home side and jubilation for the travelling support when MCKENZIE was adjudged to have blocked a shot with his hand, and from the resulting free kick Ferguson curled an unstoppable 30 yard free kick into the top corner of the net (FWE 3-3 NEW). 93MINS: FULL TIME Overall View: A very hard one for the boys to take, but never the less a good performance against a well organised Newburgh side. Full Time Score: Forfar West End JFC 3-3 Newburgh JFC (Ramsay 15, Scott 70, Irons 80) (McLeish 25, Ferguson 85,90) Next Fixture: Saturday 5th October 2013 Jeanfield Swifts JFC – GA Engineering Cup KO: 2:30pm 2nd REPORT Date: Saturday 5th October 2013 Competition: GA Engineering Cup Preliminary Round Opponents: Jeanfield Swifts JFC Venue: Riverside Stadium, Perth “Hart At The Double, To Get West End Out Of Trouble” A break from the league fixtures this afternoon as Forfar West End travelled to Perth to face a Jeanfield side who had previously won this competition twice in consecutive years, so Daryl McKenzie was under no illusions the task his side had been given before even reaching the first round proper. Gary Muckersie The game was under way with West End who had made a few personal changes from the previous week started the brighter. 15MINS: CHANCE: HART nearly got himself back amongst the goals after his 2 week trip to Cuba, when his snap shot from a COX cross failed to fine the target. 22MINS: GOAL: After that bright start is was the visitors who took the lead when a BONNAR long kick was flicked on by HART and RAMSAY was bearing down on goal, his cross was met by the in form IRONS and after some protests from the home side about the whole ball crossing the line the match official awarded the goal for IRONS 3rd strike in 3 games (JEA 0-1 FWE). 25MINS: GOAL: The home side got themselves back on level terms in this tie and weren’t going to give up their trophy that easy, when a looping free kick from Mackie found its way to goal after the West End backline failed to clear (JEA 1-1 FWE). 35MINS GOAL: West End found themselves back in front in the match when HART was taken down 25 yards out from goal, the big man then picked himself up and curled a delightful free kick past Bruce off the inside of the post (JEA 1-2 FWE). 40MINS: CHANCE: The home side were claiming a goal when a Holden shot deflected off REYNOLDS and look destined for the goal but the outstretched BONNAR somehow managed to claw the ball away, much to the home side’s frustration. 45MINS: GOAL: Just as it looked like being a 1 goal advantage at the break for West End they doubled their advantage when COX was brought down in the area and up stepped HART to smash the ball high into the net (JEA 1-3 FWE). 45MINS: HALF TIME Half Time Score: Jeanfield 1-3 Forfar West End JFC (Mackie 25) (Hart 35,45 PEN, Irons 22) The second half was under way and the home side were pushing for the goals that would rescue their side. 55MINS: SUBSITUTION: COX OFF SCOTT ON, HART OFF MUCKERSIE ON 60MINS: SUBSITUTION: GODFREY OFF, TAYLOR ON 70-80MINS: The home side tried to get themselves back into the game but couldn’t find the breakthrough as the West End backline held firm, but weren’t threatened that often, Webster and Holden went close but BONNAR was in outstanding form and kept the visitors 2 goal lead in tact. 85MINS: CHANCE: The home side then had a chance to rescue this tie when BLACK was adjudged to have pushed Holden in the area and the match official pointed to the spot, but with the form BONNAR was in this wasn’t going to be easy for the attacker, as he smashed it down the middle BONNAR got his legs to it and also parried away the rebound much to the visitors relief. 90MINS: FULL TIME. FT SCORE: Jeanfield 1-3 Forfar West End JFC (Mackie 25) (Hart 35,45 PEN, Irons 22) Overall View: A win that merited Daryl McKenzie’s men with result of the week in the Evening Telegraph, so this goes to show you what a result this was, to knock out the holders and not even give them a chance to defend their trophy is some achievement from the Strathmore men.
