FORUM,JADAVPUR UNIVERSITY The JADAVPUR UNIVERSITY MAIN HOSTEL BOYS organised a CULTURAL PROGRAMME FOR A SEPARATE STATE OF GORKHANLAND on 1st september 2013.The theme of the event was “TO UNITE FOR A BETTER TOMMOROW”. Proceedings of the event were as follows 1.At 6 pm the host Ngawang welcomes the people present in the event 2.The JADAVPUR UNIVERSITY MAIN HOSTEL BOYS (JUMHB) started the event with a song "Hole in the World" by the Eagles. 3.Then a poem was recited by Ashes limbu a Jadavpur university student titled “Nirdharan” and he translated it into hindi and conveyed the diverse participation of 200 as to why we are advocating a creation of a separate state. 4.Prashit communicating the message of communal harmony sang the song “Brisdrit naw du parae “ in Nepali ,Assamese ,Bengali and Hindi . 5.Palash Da a Bengali student of Jadavpur university laid down the historical facts about Gorkhaland said that it was never a part of westbengal he supported the idea of peoples movement which was democratic and gave importance to the the idea of self determination and protection of identity within the nation.He said that derogative comments on the Gorkhas such as “chang”,”Chowmein”,”chinese”,” momo”,”Japanese” were done in the nation which they have lived and served for so he urged the center and state to consider the matter of Gorkhaland and respect the identity the Gorkha communities bear and to protect it.Giving telangana for motives which is open to all just saddens me to see the fate of the indian Gorkhas.so he added their quest for a separate state is long which was not considered so he fully supports the statehood demand and said its not a secessionist movement . 6.Sumendra Tamang student of Jadavpur university sang a Bengali song to cheer the audience. 7.Adwitya Thapa a Mphill student of Jadavpur university gave his speech stating that the quest for the Separate satehood has its roots in the history,its not a secessionist movement as conceived by many mainstream Bengali news paper and tv channels.Its a legitimate demand within the frame work of the Indain constitution under article 3a.He then plunged into the condition of the tea garden labourers the amount of wage they get and the amount of money that is being appropriated by the state governments as revenue from Darjeeling tea he seeked Human rights activist intervention in the same.He said that ther is not even a single university in the Proposed state of gorkhalndand in 2008 2009 in Siliguri college a notice was given by the Principal as to not let any students from the hills get admission in the college as a result many didn’t get admission ,he wanted to point out the indifferent attitude the fellow Indains have toward their own brothers and sisters so he said that this incident motivates us to have our own state where our identity is preserved and when some one says are you a foreigner or where do you come from we could proudly say that I am from Gorkhaland.On the recent developments in the Gorkhaland movement he said that the LEPCHA DEVELOPMENT CONCILL is a crude political tactics of divide and rule deployed by the state government,he added that the lepchas and gorkhas are living in harmony in the hills as well as outside he gave the example of his own hostel and showed one of his lepcha friend to prove his statenment. 8.Pramod Kharga and Choden Lama sang a self composed song for Gorkhalnd their song went like this “mah parkhi rahaeko chu jabah sunawlo akchar lae laekhnae cha hamro bhawishya……………… 9.Palash da and group sang Bengali songs for us expressing their solidarity with the movement and it went like this “gaw chor abh nahi jungle chor abh nahi mah ah mati chor abh nahi ladai chor abh nahi” 10.Pramod kharga then rendered his self composed poem for the cause of gorkhaland and it went like this”abha timilae nai kaehae garnu parcha” 11.Subroto da a Bengali student of Jadavpur university gave his speech for the separate statehood demand he strictly condemned the tag of a secessionist being labelled to the movement .He supports the idea of right to self determination and as well as the protection of identity of the gorkhas which can be fulfilled via Gorkhaland. 12.Sumendra did justice to the eve with a nepali song 13.Thendup lama then expressed his thought by giving stating his overwhelmed joy to see such revolution in Jadavpur university as it had been a hub of students revolution in the earlier days.He gave a Krantikari Salam to all.Stating that the quest for self identity would have to result in a huge movement a peoples movement where students should also have equal participation .Talked about “cultural Hegemony”of the state government by giving an example of removing nepali language from the primary section and how adverse effects it could have in the nepali literature at a later time period 14.Rahul Biswakarma sang a song “Kinah Aja manish” 15.We are the world We are the children were song by the Jadavpur university main hostel students 16.Prashit then came up with his owm composition a hindi song which went like this “Phursath na milae unko goli chalanaeko…………… ……. 17.Amal pradhan a former JU student gave his speech saying who am I and why Gorkhaland 18.Nawlakhae tara udayo ………….a nepali song was sung by Bivek Baghdas and group 19.Then Blew “the winds of change” a song sung by Bivek Baghdas and group 20.Kishan tamang confessed that it was his first time that he had come up to the stage to render his self compossed poem and said it was because of the quest of a separate state 21.There was a small speech by one of the Worker of the Jadavpur main hostel who is from Nepal and said that peoples movement have power. 22.Hae kancha tatai maryo baish janah lagyo was sung by Adwitya thapa which concluded the evenings programme 23.Vote of thanks was given by the Host and thanked those who had helped to organise the event raise fund and said that the students are ready for a revolution Democratic and constitutional for the creation of a separate of Gorkhaland.
