FOX NEWS: IS BARACK OBAMA RESPONSIBLE FOR RAPE? I was flipping the channel tonight when I got to the so called news network run by Fox. Normally I would just continue to flip the channel but I think to myself What the heck. Ill give Fox News a chance tonight. I kid you not, the first words I hear on Fox News are: I hold him (the President) personally responsible for whatever violence, or rape that is happening to these children on the journey up here (Rachel Campos-Duffy in reference to illegal immigration in America). Normally, I would just brush this ignorance off but for the love of all this is good and righteous, how does Fox News continue to perpetuate such foolishness? How could such ignorance and hate receive a platform on a daily basis to reach millions of Americans? So Ms. Campos-Duffy, youre holding Barack Obama personally responsible for the rape of these immigrant children in the United States? Not the rapist! Not CONGRESS who is Constitutionally responsible for passing immigration bills! No, youre holding Barack Obama personally responsible? Some say that this ignorance on TV is all about politics. Im not buying it. Its a lot about politics and entertainment but its also a lot about race and a racial economic hierarchy. This is coded language. In the same way that films like The Birth of Nation exploited fears of white women being rapped by black men, the same is true from a modern context. According to Ms. Campos-Duffy, Barack Obama is responsible for the rape of these children. As a Hispanic women herself, I doubt Ms. Campos-Duffy was thinking of the historic undertones of her language but in the United States such language is commonplace. There is a precedence for this ignorant speech that has been set for centuries in the United States and abroad. If Fox News were truly a fair and objective news network, Ms. Campos-Duffy would be asked to explain why Barack Obama should be personally held responsible for the rape of immigrant children. Soon after, she should be given time to apologize to the President for her ignorant remarks. But this is not how Fox News network works. Ms. Campos-Duffy did EXACTLY what Fox News wanted her to do. She exploited racial fears that many audience members hold. She attacked the President. She used sensationalist rhetoric. She painted herself as a mother who cares about kids. And she is a Hispanic women, which in the eyes of many of Fox News viewers makes this speech somehow more acceptable. Job well done Ms. Campos-Duffy. Keep this up and youll probably have your own show on Fox soon.
